Last week I was watching an antique show on television. The host of the show was talking about an old bank called “Remember The Maine.” I only caught the tail end of the show but he mentioned that it was originally sold through Sears. Is this bank the boat “The Maine?” How much did Sears originally sell this for?

It is in fact the battleship “The Maine.” Sears, Roebuck and Company first offered this unique bank in their Fall 1900 catalog number 110. This battleship bank was nickel plated and detailed with various colors of enameled paint. For safe keeping, it contained a very unique puzzle combination lock. Catalog item number 59080 originally sold for 85 cents. In excellent condition this bank has a value of approximately $475.00 today.
